Clarke Bynum

Founder & Writer

Having grown up in Singapore, Clarke is uniquely passionate about third culture kids and their families. Knowing all to well the struggle and triumph that comes with living in a culture outside of his own. This exposure to the world at a young age, along with some supportive teachers at Singapore American School, jumpstarted Clarke’s thirst for knowledge and understanding for the human experience around the world.

Clarke has always had a drive to take on challenges. Weather it be the odd hobby of artistic whip cracking, like Indiana Jones, and working his way up the ranks to the point of being honored at the International Whip Convention in LA years after his “retirement” from the art. Or be it the serious pursuit of emotional depth and meaning in classical music. Clarke had a late start at the piano but used this as fuel to his fire to make up for lost time. His history grades may have suffered but his performances of Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Bach would land him competition wins and performances against those who started at the age of 5.

Clarke no longer performs on any concert stage but instead uses piano as his release valve from the world. He chose to go to rehab instead of music school and has not looked back yet. The dividends that Clarke has earned from taking that deep dive into “self” have returned more on the investment than a $150k debt to play Beethoven a bit better ever would have returned. Clarke is very active in the recovery community and an advocate for mental health and suicide awareness. Having given talks to audiences of over 200 about suicide prevention and the experience and hope that is found when people lean on people.

Clarke has taken this diligent work ethic that comes from classical music to drive full force in the world of entertainment. Working alongside EMMY award winning Directors on projects that had to get the axe due to the pandemic. Taking advantage of the time away from the world of TV and Film to work on his novel and this very business plan. During the pandemic Clarke also worked on an international film project in Sweden. Due to very large creative differences the project wound up being shelved, however, the lessons learned and the commitment for 3 years was not lost on Clarke. This only expanded the passion and revved his engine for Jelawai. Seeing the underbelly of how the entertainment industry works and how unfairly treated the creatives are has spawned the need for change. Clarke has, unbeknownst to him at the time, been working towards this since the 5th grade when he wrote his first poem and had the fire for stories and people get ignited within himself.
